A few years have gone by since we last saw a project from Kendrick Lamar. In fact, his last album was in 2018 for the Marvel film Black Panther, and before that we frequently got releases.

In 2017, we got DAMN., in 2016, untitled unmastered, in 2015, To Pimp A Butterfly, and so on, and needless to say, it has been quiet without Kendrick Lamar on the scene.

We did however get a performance by the rapper at this year's Super Bowl, where he took the stage alongside Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent, Eminem, Dr. Dre, and Snoop Dogg.

Since announcing his fifth LP last month, Kendrick Lamar has set the hip-hop industry ablaze, with fans and critics alike ruminating on what the rapper will have to say on his first album in half a decade. He’s already dropped one song and music video off of the project, the symbolism-packed “The Heart Part 5.”

Inspired by soul and funk from the 1960s and 70s, the single gave fans their first taste of what’s in store for the album’s release come Friday. Following the old school rap sound of 2017’s DAMN., Lamar is ushering in a new musical era with Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers.

Leading up to the album’s release, here’s everything we know so far:

Kendrick Lamar has gotten his fans on the edge of their seats with this party thriller. His song “ Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers Album“is already causing stirs in the streets leaving people in awe of his wordsmith powers.

Kendrick Lamar New album Tracklist Leaked ! aka oklama, announced his new album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers 15 days ago. At the time, we learned the album, Kendrick’s final release for Top Dawg Entertainment, would be out May 13.

How’s this for a Mother’s Day surprise? Late on Sunday, Kendrick Lamar dropped “The Heart Part 5,” his first new song in five years. The timing couldn’t be better for the Compton rapper: his new album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, is out this Friday.

After five long years, Kendrick Lamar is finally about to return with a new album. On Monday afternoon, he updated his website oklama.com with a statement that revealed he is, in fact, not retiring. “Appreciate your patience,” the end of his Michael Jordan-esque press release read, after revealing his album’s impending arrival.

Updating his Oklama website with a black-colored folder icon entitled “master,” the artist uploaded a photo of what seems like a book bearing his name and the album title, along with two “MASTER COPY” CDs individually labelled “STEPPERS” and “MORALE.” K-Dot did not confirm whether the speculations of the double album or the book were correct, however, leaving fans to wait for either an official announcement or the release day.

Lamar teased the record—his “final TDE album,” as he described it—on a website launched in August 2021. “May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators. As I continue to pursue my life’s calling,” he wrote at the time. “There’s beauty in completion. And always faith in the unknown.” He signed the note, “Oklama.”

Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers follows Lamar’s Pulitzer-winning 2017 album Damn. Since then, he’s curated and helmed the Black Panther soundtrack, headlined Coachella and Top Dawg Entertainment’s Championship Tour, won a bunch of Grammy Awards, and been nominated for an Oscar.

Until today, Kendrick and his team have not revealed any further information about the project since then. However, one huge detail may have just surfaced: It looks like this might be a double album. 031
